Vireo Labs Pilots Career Matching App with Sacramento County Office of Education and Los Rios Community College District

Savannah, Ga. – October 16, 2017 – Vireo Labs has announced a pilot program using the C’reer mobile app to match students in Sacramento County with career paths and the programs within the four-campus Los Rios Community College District that support those careers. C’reer is a free mobile app that helps students identify career interests and connects them with the best college programs in the region via chat.

Students enrolled in the Community Action for Responsive Education (CARE) program within the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) will use the innovative, mobile-friendly vocational assessment in C’reer to determine their profile and see how those interests match specific careers. Proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) built into the app will identify the best degree and trade school programs suited to the students’ choices offered in the Sacramento region, including those offered by the four colleges within the Los Rios Community College District - American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College.

“C’reer is designed to help students answer the question, ‘What do I want to be when I grow up?’” explained Aaron Heinrich, Vice President of Strategic Relations at Vireo Labs, the creator of C’reer. “We’re thrilled that SCOE and Los Rios agreed to be part of this pilot program that will be the first of its kind in California, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the students respond to the career options presented to them, and how the admissions counselors interact with the students through C’reer.”

Once the students see the college and trade school programs available in the careers that match their interests, they will have the option to initiate a chat session with an admissions counselor at any of the recommended schools.

“We see any new technologies that can help better connect us to prospective students as a benefit to them and to us,” said Gabe Ross, Associate Vice Chancellor Communications & Media Relations for Los Rios Community College District. “We’re interested to see how the C’reer app can do that and what kind of interaction we get with the students in the CARE program.”

CARE teachers will engage the students in career and job related exercises supported by the app and other materials developed for C’reer specifically for the pilot. Students will also help shape the future of C’reer through feedback forums.

“We’re constantly looking for new tools and methods to improve the experience of our students and to motivate them to finish high school,” stated Matthew Perry, Assistant Superintendent of SCOE. “We’re looking forward to the outcome of this project and seeing how our students react to C’reer and the options it might get them to consider.”
